Most of the time, we are assimilating familiar material from the world we inhabit into our existing schemata, however sometimes we also have to adjust or create new schemata to accommodate new experiences that do not fit our existing schemata. Through assimilation, we take in new information or experiences and incorporate them into our existing ideas.
